Elul is the time of charity, the time of special opportunities to express love for people. From the beginning of the month and up to Yom Kippur, it is customary to exchange letters with traditional wishes: "Ketivah v`chasima tovah!" meaning: "A good inscription and sealing in the Book of Life!"

For us - the New Covenant believers - the meaning of this custom is that we are called not only to prepare ourselves, but also to stand up for others. This is the time to intercede boldly, with faith and real compassion before God for His Jewish people, for Israel, for our loved ones, our neighbors, for all in need of God's mercy!

These days are the time of a special reminder that we can change not only our fate but that of other people as well: God's children who are temporarily lost in this world; nonbelievers around us.

We can change the fate of people in our apartment blocks, our cities, even in other countries!

If we lay our hearts on God's altar and cry out for His mercy for others, the most incredible miracles can happen! We must not forget that our main calling as the New Covenant believers is to bring the Gospel to Jews according to the Bible prophecy:

• Psalm 126: “When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad. Bring back our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the South. Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
• Psalm 89:15-17 “Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all day long, and in Your righteousness they are exalted. For You are the glory of their strength, and in Your favor our horn is exalted.”

The prophets saw the future as an accomplished fact (something that has been determined without those who are affected having knowledge of it, leaving them no option but to accept the decision). And if God shows us something, we must accept it by faith as something already accomplished. We need to bring the truth of God’s Word to the Jews (as well as believers from other nations); we need to talk about the fact that God came to His people and He wants to restore what was destroyed, to restore the relationship of love with His people. And He not only wants this, but He is also doing it even now!

Let’s not waste a moment of this special time we have been given to show compassion and love to our Jewish brothers and sisters and let’s pray for them and bring them the truth about their Savior, who is not far away, but near and He longs to restore the relationship with his beloved children!
